Hillary On The Rez June 1, 2008

Posted by prairiewoman in News from the Rez.

My Auntie Lois called and thought we should go to Kyle to see Hillary and since the Lakota Country Times wanted the story…off we went.  And no matter that I had already voted absentee for Obama.  Had to be there at 11:30am to check in and get our press passes but other than the metal detector, body scanner, and bomb sniffing dogs not a whole lot different from anything else around here. Hillary’s speech was excellent and I could tell Auntie had a wonderful time.  She didn’t let anything stop her from getting a handshake and an autograph from her favorite candidate.  I’m putting these photos up for my Dad & Mom as well as Auntie Lois, all big time Hillary fans.

Senator Clinton Stops in Kyle

By Roseanna Renaud

Democratic presidential hopeful Senator Hillary Clinton continued her outreach to native voters in the state with a visit to Little Wound School in Kyle on Wednesday, focusing her campaign stop on the sacrifices of Native American military veterans and the lack of benefits from the Bush Administration as well as a comprehensive economic and health care agenda for Indian Country.  Local drum group Kiyaksa Oka led off with ‘Dancer Woman’, a tribute to Senator Clinton followed by a welcome from Air Force Veteran Iva Good Voice Flute and her mother, Lillian Tobacco.  Ms. Good Voice Flute said that Senator Clinton has had a “creative record of change and will lift us all up for tomorrow.”  In front of a crowd of 300, Senator Clinton thanked Iva and all veterans for their service “on behalf of your people and our country”.  Senator Clinton went on to discuss the importance of tribal sovereignty and plans to elevate key American Indian representation to cabinet level status, holding a Tribal Summit in the White House.  “Indian Country will have a friend in the White House” said Clinton.

Too young to vote for Hillary but maybe Chelsea later on?

Hillary works the crowd after her speech.  Not a bad looking Secret Service guy behind her.  Oh right, I’m doing a story on the candidate. Oh well.

Auntie Lois (in red on left) moving in for the handshake.  Do you think the Secret Service is watching?

Lois shows off her prize autograph to friends (including cousin Michelle, far right)

A Hillary autograph on the Lakota Country Times.  It just doesn’t get any better than that.

ummm….how many times has your man, Obama, been to “the rez”? Seems he likes to stick to the ore populated areas of the Black Hills, perhaps because he cares more about the votes than he does the natives. ’nuff said.

Dear Aunt Roseanna,

I know your mother raised you better.

Love, Beacon

Your mom and Aunt Lois are very wise women.

Yes, I am a bit disappointed that Obama did not accept my offer of coffee at the Main Street Coffee Shop here in Martin. But one of these days we shall get together for a chat. Beacon, my Momma says it is OK because I finally became a Dem. All is well. And yes, my Mommy, Daddy & Auntie Lois are very wise folks. 🙂

Hey Auntie Roseanna…..where are the pictures of the bomb sniffing dogs? We feel left out….the people pics are O.K. but a lot of us doggies would like to see ‘everyone’ that attended the rally.

Connie: Yes, Aunt Lois could definitely handle anything and she knew to have Hillary sign your paper. Isn’t that a good pic of her?

Bear & Chance: Sorry I didn’t get the bomb sniffing doggies pic for you but I was afraid of getting thrown up against a building & strip searched. Hey, maybe Secret Service guy doing that wouldn’t be a bad thing. 🙂 hmmmmm?
